GOOD NEWS FOR THE LIEVITÀ TEAM

GOOD NEWS FOR THE LIEVITÀ TEAM

“Lievità has asserted itself as one of the best restaurants to eat pizza in Milan for quite some time now.  It definitely is the stronghold of pizza in the Neapolitan style: not by chance Giorgio Caruso has been awarded a place of honour among the speakers at Identità di Pizza, during the last Identità Milano edition.”

“…we like the idea that a serious professional like Caruso prefers to offer a less ample choice of pizzas to  closely follow quality-control and always guarantee  excellence.”

It’s a struggle to talk about pizza on a day like this. I should be dreaming the gulf of Naples, the sea fluttering under the sun. Instead, I see streets and rain-streaked cars under a gray sky.

I can just imagine the doughs giving each other a nudge and drinking this humid air, while toasting to our health.

Anyway, pizza I had decided, and pizza it will be/I have no intention of going back on my decision.

Lately I have discovered three pizzas deserving of this name and of the moral commitment that pizza entails.

These are pizzas both by name and substance. They are, in my debatable opinion, the best representatives  of their category in the city, leaving out the ultra-thin and sliced versions which have a life of their own.

It must be said that these pizzas belong to a series of recently – or very recently – opened restaurants. They will earn the podium if they remain true to themselves. Hence, for a totally unmeasurable amount of time.

To make a long story short. Here are gold, silver and bronze medals for pizza restaurants in Milan.
